Everything here works, largely because of a significant attention to detail. Character animations are fluid, the fighting controls are tight, and even online play is a breeze. That's a running theme throughout, actually - if it's in the game, it works. There aren't a ton of complicated mechanics, but everything in the game works well. In fact, Brawhalla benefits because there aren't many games to compare it to.Īt its core, this is a simple fighter - and that's a very good thing. If you sit down with friends in front of the game, you'll have a great time - especially if your friends don't go into the game with preconceived notions. The game is fast-paced, but strangely easy for new players to pick up. There are a handful of items, a cast of colorful characters, and the ability to knock players off the side to score a KO. It's a little weird to think, then, that the successor to this very popular game might be found on the PC and star a cast of entirely original characters. It's really weird, then, that the genre of mascot fighter never really took off. Smash Brothers is one of the most popular games in the world, both for typical players and professionals.
